Greetings, world! My name is Gregory Fields. I have been a freelance web/graphic designer for over five years and have recently moved with my wife to Boulder, Colorado from Seattle. We decided to live in a smaller town with significantly more sunshine so here we are. I am now looking for regular full-time work to even out the freelance ups and downs. Normally this could be very stressful but Boulder's hiking trails have a way of making one forget the pain....
My freelance experience has been quite diverse, as you will see from looking at the portfolio. I tend to have an irresistable urge to plunge into projects that will force me to learn new skills. I love to learn how to do things with my own hands, from coding websites without an editor to shooting photographs and tweaking them in Photoshop. In fact my main avocation in recent years has been ceramic sculpture, my fingers directly in the clay. You can see some of that work on my other website fieldscapes.com.
Prior to my freelance work, I lived for 22 years in a monastery that has its roots in the philosophical/meditative traditions of India. In addition to the routine of spiritual practices, I handled a wide variety of responsibilities and duties. Some of these included translating ancient Sanskrit texts, composing music for and leading a choir, assisting in the supervision of major construction projects, designing and building a recording studio, creating and editing a video documentary, and helping organize many retreat programs, some of which involved over 1000 participants. These experiences have taught me the value of teamwork, patience, creative problem-solving, and attention to detail in tackling large-scale projects. I thrive on working with others on big challenges.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service to you, or if you simply wish to talk a little philosophy or art!
